Hop Latent Viroid Transmission

Hop Latent Viroid can spread easily through gardens when people use infected tools on healthy plants. To prevent this, it’s important to clean and sterilize tools before using them on new plants. This can help keep the virus from spreading.

Hop Latent Viroid can spread through different ways, including pests like bugs, whiteflies and red spiders. It’s important to be aware of these ways and to take steps to prevent the spread.

Why should you test your plants?

Hop Latent Viroid is an infectious RNA single-stranded viroid

Meaning it travels silently within your plants' genome affecting plant development.

HLVd may or may not show visual symptoms

Some of the symptoms are dwarfed plants, loose buds with fewer trichomes, malformations, and brittle stems.
Be careful, HLVd is a silent viroid that may not show visual signs of infection but still affect the quality and quantity produced by the plant.

Hop Latent Viroid Treatment

When an infected plant is detected, it has to be removed from the growing facility as soon as possible. The only way to cure an infected plant is through a lengthy tissue culture process that will consume more inputs than the yields this plant will produce.
