Mechanical Transmission is the most common way HLV spreads through gardens. This is because infected tools and equipment used on healthy plants can cause the viroid to circulate to healthy neighboring plants. To reduce the possibility of contamination, cultivators should always sterilize their equipment before working on new plants.

Hop Latent Viroid transmission is also caused by pollination and pests (bugs, red spiders, etc.).

Why should you test your plants?

Hop Latent Viroid is an infectious RNA single-stranded viroid

HpLVd is a disease most commonly found in Hops, but can also infect cannabis, even causing more damage to the plant.

Hop Latent Viroid may or may not show visual symptoms

Some of the symptoms are dwarfed plants, loose buds with fewer trichomes, malformations, and brittle stems. But be careful, HLV is a silent viroid that may not show visual signs of infection but still affect the quality and quantity produced by the plant.
